The Abbey of St Benedict, Subiaco, contains the 'Sacro Speco' (Holy Cave) where St Benedict lived at the end of the fifth century, before moving to Monte Cassino. This monastery commands a spectacular view ove the valley of the River Aniene just outside Subiaco, where the Emperor Nero had a country palace.
